Research and planning 1A
In your experience how has your research and planning developed through creating your productions?
In year 12 the research we conducted for the film opening included researching other teen dramas to make sure ours would a be successful. A factor which we researched into was titles, we looked at other films titles in order to create the professional look we were going for. An example of research we did was the replicating the titles sequence from the Juno film this helped us as we practised the the correct timings of shots and correct imagery.
We also carried out some primary research where we created a questionnaire in relation to the film opening and we sent it to those who fit our target audience. We found the information collected by this to be very valuable as having the ability to ask our target audiences opinions allowed use to shape our film opening around them therefore making the film opening look high quality.
At A2 we followed similar kinds of research, such as researching other R&B/pop music videos. Some of the artists we researched for R&B was Rihanna and SZA they usually have a narrative in their music videos and sometimes hidden meanings. Whereas pop singers we studied was Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa which usually have a more performance based music videos. Because we were more focused on having a performance based video with one artist we focused on 'New Rules' by Dua Lipa, we found this was really useful artist to focus on as really wanted our Nova to be the 'star image' throughout the whole video. We not old researched their music videos but also their ancillary texts for example, digipaks, interviews and websites.
A way in which we planned our music video prior to making it was using a storyboard, it helped know how which shots we wanted to use and how long they would be used. We also did a voice over the storyboard so that we could portray what type of angle or shot we wanted also what location and outfit Nova would wear. This was a huge step up from the first year where our storyboard was too basic and not very useful, at A2 the storyboard significantly improved our time management therefore we had more time to edit and overall improving our final product.
At AS we did not carry out a lot of research in our ancillary texts therefore products such as the website and digipak did not look very professional. In addition we did not really know how incorporate synergy and cross media branding at AS therefore products such as the website and the digipak did not really relate to each other well.
In conclusion throughout my two year of this media course I have learnt the importance of the research and planning carried out for a product.
In year 12 (AS), I have created numerous different products such as an introductory video using already existing clips so that we would learn to use the editing software (Premiere Pro). A prelim called 'Girls Can't Play', a video in which we replicated the film opening from the film Juno and then the main project, the film opening. All the editing done at AS was extremely basic especially our start projects like our prelim. Our final film opening was a step up from our prelims but was still had basic transitions, colour correcting and amateur cuts. I also included ancillary text such as a magazine cover, movie poster which we created in PowerPoint.

Start with a proper introduction which outlines your 2 main pieces. You don't need to introduce anything to do with editing because this isn't the question.
ReplyDelete- You need to show what you researched for your film opening - what films did you study, what did you find? You do this a bit better for A2.
- You need to develop your planning section a lot. More than just a brief reference to a storyboard is needed.
- You need to be much more REFLECTIVE - trace your progress between the two years much more clearly.
