Digital technology

Explain how your digital technology skills have developed over time, and how this has contributed to your media production outcomes.

During my two year doing Media, I think my skills within digital technology have considerably improved this is in relations to camera work and editing.

In year 12 (AS), I have created numerous different products such as an introductory video using already existing clips so that we would learn to use the editing software (Premiere Pro).  A prelim called 'Girls Can't Play', a video in which we replicated the film opening from the film Juno and then the main project, the film opening. All the editing done at AS was extremely basic especially our start projects like our prelim.  Our final film opening was a step up from our prelims but was still had basic transitions, colour correcting and amateur cuts.  I also included ancillary text such as a magazine cover, movie poster which we created in PowerPoint.

In year 12 (AS) and year 13 (A level) we used a Canon 750D camera, we used this camera to film the film opening and the music video.  When making the film opening I did not really show my filming skills this is because we did not really include many quike and short cuts, the majority of them were quite long because we needed to create a narrative.  However, in this year we created the music video both my filming and editing has immensely improved, this is because when producing the music video, we wanted it to look as professional as possible to achieve this we need to include digital technology specifically camera work and editing which was much more difficult and complex than what we were used to in year 12.  In year 12 we only had to create 50 blog posts on the website Blogger, we presented all our research, planning and final products here.

In year 13 we continued to use Premiere Pro to edit.  This year we created a short video along the song ‘banana phone’ this was to improve our editing and filming skills by using techniques we weren’t introduced in the first year.  Such as reversing a video and split screening.

The song we chose for a music video was fast therefore we were forced to use many short cuts.  Having to create a music video has improved my camera technique a lot more than as we didn’t have to use a lot of long shots to create a narrative.  In year 13 the number of posted required was doubled to 100 posts.

  1. You cover the right areas, but this is quite brief.
    - you need really specific examples from your coursework - you haven't even named your products! Which effects/cuts, etc. You need specific moments from your work.
    - You haven't managed to reflect on your progress in any real depth.
